All incoming first-year students will have multiple sources of good advice
about Colorado College. In addition to your faculty advisor and your First
Course instructor (advisor and instructor may be the same person, by the
way), you'll have access to the insights of an experienced Colorado
College student in our FYE Mentor Program.

THE FYE MENTOR PROGRAM

First-Year Experience mentors are selected by the faculty teaching in the first-year program
and are associated with the particular courses in the FYE schedule. It is an honor to be
selected as a FYE mentor, and our students take the honor very seriously. FYE mentors
will not replace the important formal advising system, but may supplement it with practical,
first-hand, 'on-the-ground' advice about courses, campus organizations and informal groups,
and the local Colorado Springs area. Please take the initiative in speaking with your FYE
mentor, getting to know him or her, and taking advantage of the perspective she or he brings
to the experience of student life at Colorado College!

Your FYE Mentor may:
  • work with you as appropriate in review for your course assignments, discuss the readings
    and participate in course-related group projects and accompany you on course-related
    excursions and events.

  • offer a number of informal ‘first-year’ introduction-to-college sessions;

  • introduce you to the block plan and offer advice about prioritizing academic
    commitments, college community responsibilities, and social life;
  • introduce you to campus activities and student committees;

  • arrange occasional social events and informal discussion sessions for you and your
    fellow First Course classmates throughout the year; introduce you to the Colorado
    Springs community and region;

  • provide informal advice about courses and the general design of the first-year academic
    schedule in block two prior to preregistration for blocks 3-8;

  • offer pragmatic information (from a student's perspective!) about the point system and
    course selection before all-college preregistration in block 7.
