One of the most important functions of the Board is to recognize the contributions
of distinguished alumni, faculty members and members of the CC community
to the betterment of society and to the enhancement of the College and its
mission. The Alumni Association Board acknowledges these alumni and staff
members through three awards given at Homecoming. Submit

2007 Recipients
The Louis T. Benezet Award recognizes outstanding achievement
in one's chosen field, excellence through unusual success or contribution,
innovation or research that has advanced a profession or a cause, and/or
extraordinary contributions and achievements that have improved people's
lives and exemplify the values of a liberal arts education. These attributes
characterized the important contributions of Louis T. Benezet, president
of Colorado College, 1955-1963.
- DR. VIVIAN OTA WANG '83, a Program Director of the Ethical, Legal,
and Social Implications Research Program of the National Human Genome
Research Institute (NHGRI) and Senior Advisor to the Director of the Office
of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research at the National Institutes
of Health. Her work specializes in social justice issues related to race
and culture in genetic counseling, genomics research, education and health
policy. She is also active in the National Nanotechnology Initiative,
a bold, visionary federal interagency initiative that supports nanoscale
R & D science and policy development.
- DR. SHARON SMITH '67, a biological oceanographer who has spent her career
investigating some of the smallest components of food webs. Having received
her second Fulbright award, Dr. Smith recently spent nine months in Oman
teaching and studying zooplankton changes during the monsoon season, especially
as they relate to global warming models that forecast important changes
to the marine food web there.
The Lloyd E. Worner Award recognizes outstanding
loyalty, service and generosity to the college as evidenced by continuing
concern and support for students and the quality of teaching and learning,
as well as the general well-being and future excellence of the institution.
These attributes characterized the many years of service and effective
contributions of Lloyd E. Worner, Class of 1942, who served as a faculty
member, dean and ultimately president of Colorado College (1964-1981).
- DAVID VAN DIEST SKILLING '55, the retired chairman and chief executive
officer of Experian Information Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of
consumer and business credit and direct marketing services. He serves
as chairman of the board of trustees and teaches the Business Policy and
Strategy class with Professor Larry Stimpert.
The Gresham Riley Award recognizes faculty and
staff who have made a significant difference to the Colorado College community
through outstanding service, commitment and accomplishment. The continuing
concern for and support of students and alumni demonstrated by such individuals
ensure the general well-being and future excellence of the college. These
accomplishments exemplify the important contributions made by Gresham
Riley, the tenth president of Colorado College, 1981-1992.
- WALTER HECOX '64, who received his PhD from Syracuse University, is
a professor of economics who specializes in courses and research related
to international economics issues as well as regional resource and sustainable
development questions. Walt also oversees the State of the Rockies project.
- DOUG FOX, named the 1995 Colorado Professor of the Year by the Carnegie
Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He has written nine books.
Now Professor Emeritus of Religion, Professor Fox has taught courses on
Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Asian religions and ancient
religions.
