The mission of the Department of Education is to promote the liberal arts education of both undergraduate and graduate students and to help them recognize their responsibility to apply their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in order to address the issues that confront educators, schools, and society. |

The Department seeks to educate elementary and secondary teachers who are learned, imaginative, and innovative and to prepare them for positions of professional leadership and civic responsibility in an interdependent world. We believe our programs, and the exemplary teachers with whom our students work both at the College and in area schools, embody the essence of contributing to a civil society. |
As we look towards the future, we recognize both the place of a Department of Education in a liberal arts college and its potential in terms of supporting the College's commitment to its distinctive mission, to diversity, to collegiality, and to the community. Our students are Colorado College's ambassadors to the community and are its spokespersons for the College's commitment to the future of our society. |
