Southwest Studies at Colorado College

To learn from the Southwest is to learn from the Global Village

The Mission of Southwest Studies is the examination of the greater U.S. Southwest Region through a variety of lenses capturing the complexity that diverse people have created in a specific place. Spanning New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and parts of Colorado, Utah, California, Oklahoma and northern Mexico, the diversity of the Southwest’s landscapes and cultures rival few other regions on the globe. This blend of peoples and histories living in distinctive cultural ecologies provides a model for study applicable to any region. Using the tools of traditional disciplines in combination with interdisciplinary techniques, we learn to observe and analyze places and people and use these skills to solve real problems.
