The Moche are well known for their graphic portrayal of sexual practices. Many artifacts remain which display erotic sexual positions. The Moche did not shy away from depicting sexual acts other than traditional practices.

The Rafel Larco Herra Museum in Lima, Peru holds a very special collection of these ceramics which were once prohibited from museums but now are cherished as some of “The most frank and detailed document of sexual customs ever left by an ancient people (Kinsey).”

The wide variety of sexual practices also did not place importance on female chastity nor was homosexuality infrequent; both are contrasting from traditional cultural practices in western cultures.
