The Barnes Society, established in 1987, honors those who have generously
made a bequest provision or planned gift commitment for Colorado College
in their estate plans. The Barnes Society is named for Chemistry Professor
Otis A. Barnes and his wife, Margaret Tyson Barnes ’27,
in recognition of their enormous generosity. In 1952, the Barneses established a modest trust to provide scholarships for chemistry students at the college. The trust, still in existence today, has provided full scholarships to hundreds of Barnes Scholars. The Barneses also provided for the Colorado College in their estate plans. Their two bequests totaled just over $10 million. Margaret and Otis Barnes embodied a lifetime of generosity, and in recognition of their benefaction the college named the Barnes Science Center in their honor. Membership in the Barnes Society is open to those who:
Anyone who has a life income plan with a trustee other than Colorado College,
or who has a bequest provision which has not been recently confirmed at the college,
and who wishes to become a member of the Barnes Society, may submit a form to
the Planned Giving Office. The size of the eventual gift need not be disclosed. Legacy Society Gift Planning Questions? Contact Nancy Winkle, Planned Giving Coordinator, at (800) 782-6306 (select option 7) or (719) 389-6230 |
