Borrowing Policies for Community Borrowers
Who May Borrow
Colorado residents with a current public library card from a Colorado library, and students, faculty and staff with current identification cards from a Colorado educational institution may register as a Community Borrower.
Application Procedure
Applicants for library privileges must register at the circulation desk in Tutt Library or the Music Library in Packard Hall. It is necessary to fill out a registration card listing a permanent address, telephone number and e-mail address (if available). Library staff are available to assist persons with disabilities, upon request.
Applicants must also show a photo ID, and their public library card or college ID must be large enough (credit card size) for us to adhere a Colorado College library barcode (no keychain size ID’s will be accepted).
Borrowing privileges are valid for one year, and may be renewed as long as the individual has no overdue fines or replacement charges.
Loan Periods
A total of 3 items may be checked out.
- Books and Government Documents – 30 days
- Current Books (CBS) – 30 days
- Videos/DVDs – DO NOT CIRCULATE
Renewals
Two renewals are permitted for items that do not have a hold placed on them.
Items may be renewed:
- In person at the Circulation Desk
- By phone (719) 389-6184
- By using the “View Your Own Library Record” option in the TIGER catalog
- By E-mailing Tutt Library Circulation Desk
Overdues and Fines
Overdue Books
- $ .50 per day for each overdue book (with a maximum of
$15.00 per book) - $5.00 per day for recalled items
Circulation privileges will be suspended if fines exceed $10. Privileges will be restored when account is cleared.
Replacement of Lost or Damaged Material
Those using library materials, whether in our out of the building, are responsible for the condition of the material while in their use, and for the timely return of the materials.

Holds and Recalls
Placing holds on materials is not available to Community Borrowers. Material is subject to recall if the current borrower has had it for more than two weeks. Items recalled for reserve or for classroom use must be returned immediately.
If an item is recalled it must be returned as soon as possible. Fines will accrue at $5.00 per day.
Non- Circulating Materials
The following types of materials do not circulate.
- Reference materials
- Special Collection materials (no exceptions)
- Microforms
- Any material marked “non-circulating” (e.g., “Library use
only” or “not to leave the library”) - Newspapers
- Periodicals
- Most maps
- Some Government Documents which are “non-circulating”
- Community Borrowers may not request items via Prospector
Confidentiality of Records
Library circulation records and other records identifying the names of library patrons are confidential in nature. Such records will not be made available except pursuant to legal process, order or subpoena.
