Daniel Marion '12
Senior Class Speaker
I grew up in Summit County, Colo., where I realized the sweetness of life through the natural beauty of Colorado and the pair of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factories my parents owned. I have always believed in the need to strive for one's goals but to cherish the journey along the way. At CC I learned that the best things in life are not the materials we accrue but the experiences we have and the friendships we forge. I have particularly enjoyed traveling abroad to Chile and Greece with CC classes, as well as co-chairing a religious organization, working for the Safe Ride and Admissions Office, and receiving the Transition Fellowship Program scholarship. The scholarship will help fund a 1000 mile bike ride I am doing with a friend this summer to raise money for the Children's Hospital Network and help me transition into a career of magazine writing. I believe that at Colorado College we aren't trained to only have a career, but to succeed in any part of life through the skills we acquire. I received the best advice in my life from CC professor Willy Stern in an Investigative Journalism class: "Be honest. Be decent. Be fair. Be smart." I feel humbled to have been chosen as the class of 2012 speaker, grateful to Colorado College for everything they have given me, and excited for whatever adventures the future may hold.
