Colorado College welcomed 531 first-year students to campus on Monday, August 31 during the college’s annual Opening Convocation and first day of classes.

The class of 2013 includes:

  • Many students who received CC merit based scholarships include 3 Colorado College Southwest Scholars, 3 Leadership Scholars, 13 Trustee Scholars, and 24 Presidential Scholars
  • 6 Boettcher Scholars
  • National Merit winners, semi-finalists and commended students, AP and IB scholars, and valedictorians
  • A student who designed and marketed a memory-enhancing energy drink before building a hovercraft for golf courses
  • A student who designed and constructed a prototype for a solar powered water purification machine
  • 178 were captains of a varsity sport, 37 of those were a captain of at least two
  • National or Junior Olympic level athletes in snowboarding, motocross racing, tennis, hockey, skiing, golfing, volleyball, rock climbing, freestyle kayaking, and even ultimate Frisbee
  • 109 students who have performed as actors and dancers
  • 18 class presidents
  • One heroic student who revived a shark while working with marine life
