What requirements for the Psychology major can I fill with Advanced Placement (AP) credit?

Mathematical Competency Requirement

  • Calculus AP test score of 5 qualifies.  Arrange credit with both the Registrar & the Psychology Dept. Chair.
  • Calculus AP credit without score of 5 qualifies if you pass a placement test.
    Contact the Colorado College Math Department Office to arrange a placement test.

Introduction to Psychology Requirement

  • Psychology AP score of 4 or 5 qualifies.  Arrange credit with both the Registrar & the Psychology Dept. Chair.

Scientific Breadth Requirement

  • AP does not qualify – this requirement must be met with a college course.

 

What requirements for the Psychology major can I fill with International Baccalaureate (IB) credit?

Mathematical Competency Requirement

  • IB Calculus credit qualifies if you pass a placement test.
    Contact the Colorado College Math Department Office to arrange a placement test.

Introduction to Psychology Requirement

  • Higher Level (HL) Psychology scores of 5, 6, or 7 qualify.
  • HL Psychology 4 and Standard Level 5, 6, 7 qualify for graduation requirements but not major requirements.

Scientific Breadth Requirement

  • IB does not qualify – this requirement must be met with a college course.

 

What requirements for the Psychology major can I fill with Transfer credit from another college?

(This includes credit for transfer students as well as Colorado College Study Abroad transfer credit.)

Mathematical Competency Requirement

  • Transfer credit (C- or better) equivalent to Colorado College MA125, MA126, MA129CP115, or CP122 qualifies. Contact the department chair if you have questions regarding equivalency.

Scientific Breadth Requirement

  • Transfer credit (C- or better) equivalent to a Colorado College Natural Science course qualifies.  The Natural Science Division comprises the following departments: Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology & Ecology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and Human Biology & Kinesiology

Psychology Course Requirements

A total of one or two courses of Transfer credit (C- or better) are possible subject to Departmental approval. Submit potential transfer course syllabi to the department chair for consideration.

  • Introductory Psychology requirement may be filled with an equivalent transfer credit.
  • Research Design requirement (2-blocks) may be filled with two equivalent transfer credits.
  • Core A thru D requirements may be filled with (300-level) transfer credit from the same topic areas.
    +1 Core requirement may be filled with an equivalent transfer credit for an alternative area.

 

  • Transfer credit is NOT possible for the 400-level senior seminars requirement.
  • Transfer credit is NOT possible for the Final Project requirement.
    (These two requirements must be completed at Colorado College.)

Examples of the maximum transfer credit of 4 courses toward the Psychology Major Requirements:
1. Mathematical Competency, Scientific Breadth, Introductory Psychology, Core B – Personality
2. Mathematical Competency, Scientific Breadth, Core B – Personality, +1 Core – Health Psychology
