First-Time Team Surprises Competitors
Colorado College’s first mock trial team won the regional tournament held at the Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas, earlier this month.
The tournament featured 22 teams from 12 colleges and universities teams across the Midwest and Front Range. Colorado College had a 7-1 record through the preliminary competition, advanced to finals, and won the tournament, with Corey Baron ’16 earning an Outstanding Witness award and Aisha Raja ’15 and Alex McDonald ’14 earning Outstanding Attorney awards.
“The tournament went extremely well and we are very pleased with our success,” said Taylor Kelson ’14. “Entering the tournament, we were just hoping to do well enough to advance to the next level, so coming out as the top ranked team was an amazing experience. First-year teams generally do not have a strong reputation as competitors, so it was fun to listen to the comments about our team shift as people realized how well we were doing.”
