Meal Plan Accommodations

As a residential college, Colorado College strongly believes that life in our residence halls is a central part of the holistic learning experience that characterizes a liberal arts education. Generally, all students live on campus for the first three years of their enrollment at CC. A significant part of the residential experience includes being on a meal plan and eating in Bon Appetit’s cafes and restaurants. Please refer to the Housing and Dining website for a full description of the dining options at CC.

The Accessibility Resources staff is happy to meet with students to talk about specific requests for disability-related meal plan accommodations (e.g., avoiding specific foods, being on the apartment meal plan, and exemption from the college meal plan). We carefully consider each request for accommodation on a case-by-case basis. Final accommodation decisions are made by a review team that includes Accessibility Resources, Residential Life and Campus Activities, Bon Appetit, and the Chaplain’s Office.

Students who are requesting meal plan accommodations for disability-related reasons should follow the steps below.

New First-Year and Transfer Students

  • Complete the Accessibility Resources "Request for Accommodations and Services" form found on the Registering with Accessibility Resources webpage. If this form has not been submitted previously, please do this as soon as possible after committing to attend Colorado College.

  • Contact Accessibility Resources to discuss requested accommodations.

  • Complete the “Meal Plan Accommodation Request Form.” Students can obtain this form from Accessibility Resources.

  • Submit documentation of disability. Students should contact Accessibility Resources for guidance on the documentation needed for their individual situations. General information can be found on the Documentation Guidelines webpage.

  • Please allow three weeks after submission for Accessibility Resources and the review team to process requests. Students will be notified of decisions via their CC email address.

  • Students who are not granted a meal plan accommodation or who choose to not accept the offered accommodation are required to be on a standard meal plan. For more information regarding standard meal plans, please visit the Student Accounts website.

Continuing Students

  • Contact Accessibility Resources to discuss requested accommodations by October 15 for 2019 spring meal plans and April 15 for 2019-20 meal plans. (Meal plan accommodations are applicable from the implementation date through the remainder of the academic year.)

  • Complete the Accessibility Resources "Request for Accommodations and Services" form found on the Registering with Accessibility Resources webpage, if this form has not been submitted previously.

  • Complete the “Meal Plan Accommodation Request Form.” Students can obtain this form from Accessibility Resources.

  • Continuing students should submit the completed "Meal Plan Accommodation Request Form" to Accessibility Resources by November 1 for 2019 spring meal plans and May 1 for 2019-20 meal plans. Students with extenuating circumstances may still submit a meal plan accommodation request after these date; however, the process may be delayed while waiting for the review team to consider the request.

  • Submit documentation of disability. Students should contact Accessibility Resources for guidance on the documentation needed for their individual situations. General information can be found on the Documentation Guidelines webpage.

  • Please allow three weeks after the submission deadlines for Accessibility Resources and the review team to process requests. Students will be notified of decisions via their CC email address.

  • Students who are not granted a meal plan accommodation or who choose to not accept the offered accommodation are required to be on a standard meal plan. For more information regarding standard meal plans, please visit the Student Accounts website.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Students who have received meal plan accommodations in the past must apply each academic year to be reconsidered.

  • Please note that dietary preferences rarely rise to the level of disability.

  • Students may be asked to work with the college’s food service provider, Bon Appetit, to determine if arrangements can be made to meet dietary needs prior to consideration for a meal plan accommodation.

For additional information on meal plan accommodations or other accommodations and services for students with disabilities, please contact Accessibility Resources.
