Do I need to register my student for Family Weekend?
Yes! Students are not "automatically" registered for Family and Friends Weekend. Please register all people in your party, including your CC student/s, so we can have a welcome packet and name tags ready for you when you arrive on campus.
When is the registration deadline?
The online registration deadline is Friday, September 29, 2017. Onsite registration will be available, but families are strongly encouraged to register online to avoid unnecessary waiting on the day of the event. Sense of Place Feature Lunch and Bluegrass Brunch tickets will be available when you check in at Registration Central. Delivery of tickets for the Downtown Core Culture Tour and performances at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at CC are coordinated by the sponsoring organizations.
What should I do if I plan to arrive after Registration Central is closed for the day?
Please have your student visit Registration Central and check in for you. Your student will be able to pick up your registration packet and name tags, as well as any tickets you may have reserved.
What if my plans change, and I need to cancel my registration?
Cancellations must be made at least one week prior to the weekend, with requests for refunds submitted via email to email@example.com by 11:59 p.m. MST on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. No refunds for college-sponsored events will be given after Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. Refunds for the Downtown Core Culture Tour and FAC theatre performances are at the discretion of the sponsoring organizations.
Events and Activities
When should we plan to arrive? Do family members stay for the entire weekend?
The schedule is designed to allow you to pick and choose events throughout the weekend and to take advantage of quality time with your student. Your arrival time and length of stay is up to you. With that in mind, many families choose to check in on Friday in order to maximize the number of events they are able to attend. However, if you cannot join us on Friday, check in is also open on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon.
Are family members and guests welcome at all events?
Siblings, grandparents, and other family members or guests are welcome at all events. Please ensure that all guest names, including the name of your CC student, are included with your registration so that name tags can be provided for all attendees.
Will my student be able to participate?
Students are encouraged and invited to attend all portions of the weekend! However, they are not "automatically" registered. Please ensure that your student's name is included with your registration.
What if my student has an exam, a project, or a field trip?
Students may have exams, major projects that require advance preparation, field trips, or other obligations during Family and Friends Weekend. We highly recommend that you speak with your student regarding their academic or other commitments and coordinate your planned activities prior to registering.
What if my student does not want to attend activities during Family and Friends Weekend?
Family and Friends Weekend is an opportunity to both enjoy time together and learn more about CC. The more you know, the better you will be able to support your student throughout their educational career. Some families attend and see their student only occasionally. Other families and students spend all their time together. Talk to your student and get a sense of what they would prefer as you make plans to visit them in their "home away from home."
What should I wear?
Dress during the weekend is casual and comfortable. Lightweight and medium-weight layers, sunscreen, hats, lip balm (and plenty of water) are all advisable. Don't forget to wear your CC gear!
What is the weather like?
Colorado Springs and the CC campus are about 6,000 feet above sea level in an area with low humidity. Weather patterns can change rapidly, and autumn in Colorado could bring sunshine or snow! We suggest you check the weather report before you leave home. In case of precipitation, outside activities will be moved inside or cancelled.
Lodging and Dining
Where can we stay in the area?
For your convenience, we have reserved room blocks with group rates at several of the most popular area hotels. Visit our Accommodations page for more information on these hotels, as well as for information on alternate lodging.
Where can we eat?
We hope you and your student will join us for the Sense of Place Feature Lunch on Friday ($10 per seat), the East Campus Dedication Lunch on Saturday (included in your registration fee), and the Family and Friends Bluegrass Brunch ($10 per seat; free for students on the meal plan) on Sunday. Other options:
- Rastall Café, in Worner Campus Center, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and accepts Gold Card, cash, or credit cards.
- Favorite restaurants within a short walking distance include: Wooglin's Deli, La'au's Taco Shop, and Panino's.
- Visit one of a number of other local restaurants. A list of student favorites is available at Registration Central or at the Worner Center Desk.
Can I request special meals due to dietary restrictions?
Please note on your registration form if you have dietary restrictions we need to accommodate.
Parking and Accessibility
Where can I park during Family and Friends Weekend?
You are permitted to park in any campus parking lot. There is on-street parking available within walking distance from campus. ADA-only parking is available in the Armstrong lot (C-2 on the campus map). Please be aware that on-campus parking may be limited due to the large volume of visitors.
We have a family member in a wheelchair. Can we get around to all the events?
Events are held in campus buildings and areas that are handicapped-accessible. However, it is important to remember that there can be some distance between buildings and events. If you have questions about accessibility, please contact us, and we will be happy to assist you.
